We turned up on the Sunday morning of the weekend
show, taking almost 45 minutes to find the place (it's a Ministry of
Defense 'island' and we had to pass through a checkpoint before we even
found the first sign that we were in the right place). And once we'd
located the show area we realised that 9:00am is a bit too early for
most custom car owners, especially since they were still sleeping off
the hangover from the previous night!
So with most of the campers still in bed there were
only a few other cars parked up in the show area. But by 12pm the old
military airfield was packed with hot rods, custom cars, modified classics
and all sorts of interesting old cars.
First
to catch my eye was this blown Rover V8 powered Minor that has been
treated to a coupe roof chop and a full tubular chassis. I had a quick
chat with the owner who would like me to point out that it is for sale
for the minor (sic) sum of £5500.
Next
up is this kustom 'lead-sled' Minor, the roof has been chopped by a
subtle 2 inches or so, fitted with rear wheel arch spats and smoothed
and blended in headlight eyebrows. Going by the standard front tyres
my guess is that this is probably running either a standard engine and
box or maybe a 1275cc.
