Brakes

The most common and popular brake modifications involve either the Morris Marina or Vauxhall Viva front disc brakes. Fiat discs have also been fitted, but the Marina and Viva both offer matching stud patterns to the Minor.

Morris Marina Disc Brakes

The early Morris Marina has the same stud pattern as the Minor and as such may be the better choice for you when deciding which model/year Marina to acquire your discs from. The early Marina discs will obviously allow you to keep the same Minor wheels, be they normal saloon or the slightly wider Minor van rims.

A Word of Caution. If you want to use wider tyres than standard on your Minor (5.20 x 14 or 155/14), then it is STRONGLY recommended that you swap the Minor rims for either late model (post-1962) Van rims or even change to a different supplier altogether. The standard Minor rims, especially the side valve/pre-1953 Series MM rims, are not designed to accept high-pressure, radial tyres. Use of modern tyres on these old-style rims may result in the tyre separating from the rim under hard cornering! If you must use the standard Minor rims, even the late-model Van rims, ALWAYS fit inner-tubes, even with tubeless tyres.

Once you've decided which stud pattern and disc brake 'flavour' you want, the fitting of the Marina disc brakes is a fairly straightforward operation.
