Series MM 1949 Model
« on: 17-Jun-2011 13:57:59 »

This model has a side valve engine fitted with no water pump, and relies on a thermosyphon system to circulate the water. The model I am looking at has no heater. Is there any way a heater can be fitted huh

Thanks for the info. Looks as if I'll have to travel with a "Hottie" in the winter if I buy it, as the engine number is 18958.

According to the Original Morris Minor book, from engine number 77001 it is possible to fit a water pump, and so a heater. If yours is earlier than this then I think you are out of luck - dress up warm!

early models didnt have prevision for pump and later did. Have seen a remote pump, mounted above the generator fitted before.

Something like this...

Good luck finding one though. If you are really keen you could probably make something similar by creating a back housing for more modern pump.

G'day

I fitted an electric water pump to MORRX which has done the job so far, it has an adjustable temp control.
I do not know anything about side valve engines but I would think it would be easy to fit as it grafts into the radiator hose.

Cheers

You are right - a modern electric aftermarket pump would do the job. You might need to add an alternator to keep the battery charged though.
