I learned to drive in Norman.
My brother used to take me out to the gravel pit behind Dad's work and teach me how to do handbrake slides. My uncle taught me emergency stops. Same thing isn't it? :)
On passing my test I was given the Morrie as a present and it ferried me to school/university/work and back for the next 10 years. During that time I rebuilt the standard 948cc engine into a 1220cc flyer. It was my first attempt at building an engine and it came out a treat! :) The speedo showed a speed of 'F' which actually means 'Full' on the fuel tank but which I took to mean 'Flamin Fast'. Hills I used to chug up at 30mph in 3rd gear could now be taken at 60mph in 4th.
I love this car, even though it has caused a lot of grief in recent years due to overcooking one day (a hole in the radiator), and I still have it in my garage back in New Zealand awaiting a full restoration. And a new 'Flamin Fast' engine :)
It's a 1962 Four-Door Saloon, with a worked 1098cc engine that features a fully balanced crankshaft, lightened and balanced rods, Formula Junior race-spec camshaft, 60 Thou' overbore, 12G-295 head w/1275 valves, 1.5" SU Carburettor w/H7 needle, extractors (headers) and 2" exhaust system, and Vauxhall Viva 13" wheels.
